Handler was raised in a safe neighborhood and enjoyed a pleasant childhood. After turning 19, Handler was able to move to Los Angeles to pursue her acting profession. Handler began performing to earn cash. However, when she was age 21, Handler decided to pursue the stand-up comic profession full time after she discovered her storytelling abilities. The beginning of her career Handler began her stand-up career as part of the Oxygen network, which was an all-female cast on the hidden camera/practical-joke reality television series Girls Behaving in a Bad Way.
